La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+*

Hello beauties,

Today I have a product from La Roche Posay, Effaclar Duo+ that has been my product of the summer.

Having oily, hormonal spot prone skin I haven’t really found a product that will really help prevents those monthly jawline beasts that crop up and sometimes can be very painful. This product WORKS! With ingredients like Niacinamide (which my skin loves) Lipo Hydroxy Acid and Salicylic Acid that helps to unblock pores and Zinc that helps to reduce sebum.

I had brilliant results with this, Effaclar is a light gel serum texture, layers well under moisturiser and SPF, it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy. As well as helping with existing breakouts, it helped to prevent new ones. I saw the most dramatic results around my jawline, Effaclar has really balanced my skin.

What I love is that this is a spot treatment yet you don’t have that awful drying side effect you get from most traditional products. It’s much more friendly to skin yet uber effective.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anyone who is suffering with breakouts, it really does deserve all the hype it gets. A real gem! A 40ml tube is £16.00 so affordable too and you can often find it on promotion online.

Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen SPF50

Hi beauties

Today I have this SPF from Altruist, a brand I hadn’t heard of until I was browsing on Amazon one day.

The company was set up by Dr Andrew Birnie, a consultant in dermatology who specialises in skin cancer. Dr Birnie is based in Canterbury in the UK. Together with a friend David Westerbeek van Eerten who is an economist with a skincare background, the pair set up Altruist to supply affordable sunscreen that everyone can use.

I’ve been using this SPF50 formula, which is suitable for both face and body, easy to apply and reapply and I have to say I love it. It’s the lightest SPF50 I have EVER tried and as an oily gal I appreciate that very much! The recommended amount for your face is a teaspoon amount which is just over 5ml. It’s a fantastic Sunscreen and a definite repurchase. The twin pack (yes you get two!) is £7.50 for two 100ml tubes, possibly the best value SPF I’ve ever come across and the most enjoyable to wear. It’s a keeper! To find out all the science behind it go to http://www.altruistsun.com

Beauty Pie Japanfusion Pure Transforming Cleanser

Hi beauties,

Beauty Pie again! Today it’s the turn of Japanfusion Pure Transforming Cleanser.

This is a thick milky gel/balm that turns into an oil and then emulsifies with water into a milk. I love this kind of formula, it’s amazing at blitzing makeup and grime but doesn’t make your skin squeaky.

Japanfusion Pure Tranforming Cleanser is a definite repurchase and one I would recommend for all skin types. You can use it both for AM and PM cleanses and of course for makeup removal. I love the versatility of it, it is absolutely brilliant. £25 for non members, but members pay just £6.58.

Skintruth Soothing Toner

Hi beauties,

Today is a toner from Skintruth which is a salon brand you can get from Sally’s and Salon Services.

I have been looking for a budget toner in a decent sized bottle and that was alcohol free, something that I was finding really difficult to get. I love a toner step and really miss it when I don’t have it in my Routine.

I found Skintruth’s Soothing Toner, no alcohol but it is fragranced with Lavender and Chamomile which I have to say is perfect for me. This is so beautifully hydrating, I’ve got it in a massive spritz bottle and it’s lasted me forever!

This particular one is a 500ml bottle which means I can be as lavish as I like, I find if I apply my oils to my skin when it’s damp with toner the effect is so much better. It applies more easily and absorbs more quickly. A definite repurchase, I get mine from eBay and the 500ml size is £12.95. Another great affordable skincare staple.

Poppy Austin Vitamin C Cleanser

Hi beauties,

Today I have Poppy Austin’s Vitamin C Cleanser Anti Aging Wash.

Poppy Austin is a vegan, organic, cruelty free company that makes products with Organic Moroccan Argan Oil. According to their website the instructions on how to create the purest of Argan oils were discovered by a British couple during a house clearance in 2007 and these instructions inspired the “birth of the company”.

This Vitamin C Cleanser is Aloe based with 15% Vitamin C for smoothing and antioxidant properties. It’s a gel cleanser that can remove makeup, but not eye makeup, sulfate free and gentle.

I use this mostly as a morning or second cleanse, it’s nice but I’m not blown away by it. I think there are better face washes that are much cheaper (I’m thinking Dr Organic Dead Sea Mineral Face Wash) and for me more pleasurable to use.

I bought mine from Amazon where it does vary in price. I paid £17.49 while at the time of writing it is £16.62. I wouldn’t buy this again, I think it’s expensive for what it is, I didn’t see any of the benefits of the Vitamin C element. I’m not sure I will try anything else from the brand, there are many other things on my wish list before I would consider it.

Elemis Pro Collagen Neck and Décolleté Balm

Hi beauties,

I have an absolute stunner of a product today, Elemis Pro Collagen Neck and Décolleté Balm. I received this in the Pro Collagen Blockbuster kit from QVCUK before Christmas, I had my eye on this for quite some time.

I am a huge fan of Elemis, there are so many products that I absolutely adore so had high hopes for this and I wasn’t disappointed at all. Previously Gatineau made my favourite neck cream but for me, Elemis blow Firming throat gel out of the water.

Pro Collagen Neck and Décolleté Balm contains the Padina Pavonica algae that Elemis discovered and first put into the famous Pro Collagen Marine Cream. It’s seriously smoothing due to the Sea Buckthorn Oil, it made my skin feel like silk. Lately I have noticed that my skin on my throat feels a little gritty, this disappeared as soon as I applied this product. The effect on my lines was brilliant, really softened the lines so much I could hardly see them. I am heavy busted and a side sleeper so that does create tree trunk lines.

I apply a pea sized amount twice a day, as I’m a bit addicted to this one! QVCUK generally sell the 40ml sizes, the duo is available for £45.00. The 50ml directly from Elemis is £52.00. Thanks to QVCUK I bought a trio for about £42, so an awesome bargain for a fabulous product.

Garden of Wisdom for Victoria Health Vitamin C 23% and Ferulic Acid Serum

Hi beauties,

I’ve been using the Garden of Wisdom for Victoria Health Vitamin C 23% & Ferulic Acid for a while know and wanted to share my thoughts.

I was really excited to see a really affordable Vitamin C serums, a lot that I see around are quite expensive and as I refuse to buy anything from Deciem anymore I wanted to try this product.

GOW Vitamin C is a lightweight slightly milky formula which I find sinks in easily, they do say on the directions two pumps, however I don’t find it enough (take it to the tits people!) so I use four. I apparently had an old style bottle which literally “spat” the serum out making a lovely mess everywhere. Even when I held it close to my palm there was still a considerable amount that covered the bottle and went crusty. That drove me mad…

Onto the results: unfortunately I didn’t see any benefit to my skin at all. It felt nice on but no better than a good hyaluronic serum I already have and the bottle annoyed me so much I wouldn’t buy it again. While it’s a good idea, it just didn’t work for me. I think next I’m going to try Timeless as I’ve heard great things about the effect that has on pigmentation which is what I definitely need.
