I gave a great cleanser from Derma E to tell you about today, that was very kindly sent to me by my friend Dede (dedez_beautynstuff on instagram) after she learned I had wanted to try the brand for a while.
Even Tone Brightening Cleanser a pH balanced cleanser with Niacinamide, Panthenol, Glycolic Acid, Licorice, Vitamin C Ester, Bearberry Extract, Madonna Lily Extract, Green Tea and Vitamin A. It feels mild on your skin with no discernible smell. I use about the size of 5 pence piece and it lathers well with a wee bit of water.
This cleanser makes my skin feel smoother and doesn’t at all strip my skin. There is no SLS or chemical detergent agents which is what I look for in a foaming cleanser.
Although this is gentle enough to use every day, I use it a few mornings a week. I find I get good results from this frequency, it would also make a good second cleanse so it is versatile. I wouldn’t use this as a makeup remover, either as an AM or as I say a second cleanse PM.
Derma E Even Tone Brightening Cleanser is also very affordable, you can find online for as low as £11.20 and as you need so little a 175ml bottle will last months.
Till next time,
Hi beauty lovers,
I have a multi purpose product today by an independent brand, Lotta Skincare. Lotta is made by Charlotte who when starting her degree realised she could no longer afford the high end products she previously bought. As Charlotte studied Chemistry at university, she discovered what kind of chemicals were in conventional skincare, this led to three years making and testing her own products using natural ingredients that were beneficial for skin. Botanical Beauty Balm is one of her products.
Botanical Beauty Balm is multi use, you can use it as a cleanser as well as a moisturising balm for dry skin. I’ve used it as an overnight treatment on body, face and hands and I have to confess I love it!
The balm is Macadamia Seed Oil based with Sweet Almond, Coconut, Sunflower Seed Oils and beeswax. There are essential oils of Clove, Lavendin, Tea Tree and Geranium. It has a gorgeous texture, it is thick so you do have to warm it up by massaging into the skin. Perfect for as an overnight mask, Cuticle Treatment, Lip Balm, foot cream, any dry skin it Botanical Beauty Balm calms and hydrates your skin.
I love it, you only need a small amount as it is concentrated. I think the most surprising thing to me was the price, for 50g is £5.95 (plus shipping) it is SO affordable. You all know how much I love to find fantastic value for money, Lotta Skincare definitely offers that. Charlotte’s Night Owl Facial Oil is an extremely reasonable £15.95 for 45g. Check out her shop on etsy.com.
Till next time,
Today I have skincare from Kiko Milano, who are probably more well known for their makeup. I had a haul back in August and I picked up two masks, Sublime Youth Mask being one of them.
Sublime Youth Mask is a moisturising mask with Retinol, now I will point out here that it is Retinyl Palmitate and is quite far down on the ingredient listing, so I do not know how effective it is and what effect it will have on your skin. However, as a moisurising mask this is gorgeous. It has ingredients such as Shea butter, Sunflower Seed Oil, Palm Oil, Cotton Seed Oil, Corn Oil, Linseed Oil, Sesame Oil, and Olive Oil which make this a beautifully creamy mask that gets to work very quickly. You need to apply it for 10-15 minutes and then remove it.
I haven’t tested it overnight, but I am sure there isn’t any reason why you couldn’t if you wanted to. I love how my skin feels afterwards, which is soft and supple with a nice firming effect that doesn’t make you snatch the first moisturiser you get your hands on. The fragrance is a lovely light floral, orchid and bergamot. It’s delicate and not overpowering, but I would say this is one for the girls.
Sublime Youth Mask is also great value, 50ml costs £9.90, I had 30% off at the time but I would buy this again at full price. For such a lovely moisturising result for under a tenner, I think is a brilliant affordable price. Perhaps if you can’t run to my ultimate favourite Gatineau Masks that go from £39.00-£45.00 it’s a great high street option.
Till next time,
I have a new product from Decleor, Hydra Floral White Petal Skin Perfecting Hydrating Sleeping Mask. God that’s a mouthful! This is part of the new White Petal range that is to tackle discolouration on the skin, boost hydration and refining skin’s texture. When Look Fantastic had a sale on Decleor, I jumped at the chance to buy one. I’m obsessed with masks and anything that will help with discolouration and skin texture. I suffer with lumps and bumps under my skin which drive me mad, they don’t turn into spots, they just sit there under the skin, being lumpy and annoying me. How rude!
So on to the mask. It’s a light gel texture, with little spheres in which holds Vitamin B3 (otherwise known as Niacinamide), Camomile and Pea extract to brighten and Salicylic Acid to help with texture issues. It smells beautiful thanks to Neroli essential oil that I find always helps me feel calm. You need a very thin layer, let it sink in and then you can go to bed.
I really wanted to love this mask, but alas apart from hydration I didn’t notice any improvement in my skin. Texture problems were still there and I was using it 3 times a week for a good 6 weeks, so 21 applications were I feel enough time to test it. I did not see any difference in dark spots and pigmentation which is the predominant reason I bought it. If you want to test this for yourself it is available from http://www.lookfantastic.com and is £27.20 for a 50ml tube.
Till next time,
Today sees a body scrub review from natural brand Pure Purpose. They reached out to me and asked if I would like to try their coffee body scrub and facial and give some feedback. As everyone knows I’m obsessed with oils so said yes please!
Pure Purpose is a small family owned business from Kent, I really enjoy trying products from independents. You really get to know the brand on a personal level as often you are dealing with an extremely small team. That and I find that customer service is so much more personal.
So to the product! I have tried a couple of coffee scrubs before and I love ’em! They are so thorough but I find gentle enough for my eczema prone skin as there is Oil binding the formula together. The scrubs don’t contain mineral oil, SLS, phlthalates or parabens. Ingredients are: Coffee seed powder, Sugar, Seaweed powder, Sea Salt, Sweet almond oil, Vitamin E, Eucalyptus essential oil, Grapefruit seed extract and Limonene.
This particular scrub is the Seaweed and Eucalyptus that smells gorgeous, I love the fragrance as its so uplifting. I use a tiny amount for each body part, I don’t rub really hard, but enough to get the product to work. I love how my skin feels afterwards, I’m left feeling so smooth and moisturised, further oils or lotions aren’t needed so this saves time for me. Also, this scrub rinses away so easily from the bottom of the bath (I already have a non-slip mat in my bath so I don’t need to worry), quick blast of the shower and its all gone. Some oil will remain so if you haven’t got a bath mat you probably need to clean it straight away.
Pure Purpose would be my choice of coffee scrub, while I have enjoyed using coffee scrubs before, their fragrances haven’t been my ideal. I don’t like the smell of Coconut and I am not a huge fan of sweet foodie scents so this fragrance is perfect for me. Also the price is incredibly reasonable at £13.50 for 180g. As only a handful is needed each time this would last months. The packaging is re-sealable too and in a waterproof pouch. I don’t store mine in my bathroom as it’s best kept in cool, dark places. You can buy from http://www.purepurposecosmetics.co.uk.
Till next time,
Another Sukin product today, this time the Hydrating Facial Masque. Sukin make environmentally sustainable skincare for affordable prices, I picked up a few things from the brand a few months ago and I have been trying them out.
I love masks, they are a fantastically quick way of getting ingredients into your skin. I am sure it will be no surprise to hear that I have many! I love finding the affordable options, so they aren’t expensive to try and if they are a gem you can carry on being able to afford to using them. We all have varying budgets, but what I have learned about us beauty addicts, we all love a bargain!
This is a cream mask and a thicker buttery texture which I like, Mango Seed Butter and Shea being ingredients in the product, as well as Sunflower Seed, Avocado, Olive Fruit, and Jojoba Oils to provide intense hydration. Papaya and Pineapple enzymes help to administer vitamins and smooth the skin. This mask has a slight fruity scents which to be honest, I am not a fan of, however it is not strong or overpowering and once you remove it the fragrance does not linger.
Application is easy and unusually the directions advise you to apply this to damp skin. I apply it all over from forehead to bustline, so my neck and chest are covered. I put on a reasonably thick layer, so that you can see the mask on your skin, leave it for 15 minutes. I really like that it is one of those masks that don’t drip, making it easy to apply and use. I usually watch TV with a mask on but you aren’t restricted to sitting down with this if you don’t want to!
This mask is one I would repurchase, it really moisturises my skin but never breaks me out making suitable for oily through to dry types. I bought mine from Boots and it cost £11.95 for 100ml.
Till next time,
I have been testing out Flashback Night Cream from Time Bomb Co for quite a long time now, longer than I usually test a moisturiser so I feel it’s remiss of me not writing this up before!
If you don’t know about Time Bomb Co, it’s Lulu’s brand created by her with the original John Freida haircare team. Lulu has long been interested in skincare and was finding that existing products were not giving her the results that she wanted as she was getting older. She turned to her friend Gail Federici who worked in the original John Freida company and she started making products for Lulu. When journalists were commenting on how amazing Lulu looked rather than her music Lulu knew she was onto something and Time Bomb Co was born.
Flashback Night Cream is based on the principal of a paraffin wax hand treatment you can get when having a manicure, it leaves your skin so soft and smooth and really locks in moisture to your skin. What I love about Flashback is that the company have used natural oils rather than mineral oil based paraffin (I am sure you are all aware of my hatred of mineral oil!!) The waxy texture comes from Rice Bran Oil, there is also Wheat Germ Oil, Shea Butter, Borage Oil and Hyaluronic acid in the formula. Before I tried it I was concerned that it would be far too heavy for my oily skin, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Flashback Night Cream is deceptively light, you don’t need a lot. I use a small spatula full for my face and neck, once you have warmed it in your hands it spreads so easily. It is packed full of moisture but not once did it break me out, I layered it with serums and oils, it locked those in and in the morning my skin felt plump and beauifully soft, and no greaseball face! I have to say I also adore the fragrance which comes from pure Lavender essential oil, it helps me wind down in the evening and I find it very comforting.
I would definitely repurchase this, it is a fabulous moisturiser and have thoroughly enjoyed using it. Flashback really surprised me, I really didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. For a 50ml size it is £36.00 direct from Time Bomb Co, however it is also stocked by QVCUK so you will probably find a keener price there.
