Paula’s Choice Resist Anti- Aging Trial Kit

Hi beauties,

I’ve been looking to try some Paula’s Choice products, they are raved about so when there was a promotion earlier on in the year with the Resist Anti Aging Trial Kit for combination/oily skin I snapped one up.

The kit contains:

  • Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser 30ml
  • Daily Pore Refining Treatment 2% BHA 30ml
  • Youth Extending Daily Mattifying Fluid SPF50 15ml
  • Anti Aging Clear Skin Hydrator 10ml

Slightly disappointed that all the sizes are not equal in this kit, I mean the SPF wouldn’t last long at 15ml if you were to apply it properly. You should be applying 1.48ml for your face and reapplying regularly. If only applying once a day with this formula (which is NOT a once a day product) it would be 10 days.

The evening moisturiser is a piddly 10ml so I would be annoyed at paying £35.00 for the kit which is its regular price. I paid £19.00 and at the time of writing is currently available at that price.

Beauty Pie Plantastic Micro Peeling Super Drops

Hello beauties,

Today I have an offering from Beauty Pie, Plantastic Micropeeling Super Drops.

These are exfoliating Drops with salicylic acid and fruit enzymes. They come in a handy dropper bottle which is a huge 50ml size.

I gave up using acids every day as my skin just can’t handle it so I thought these would be ideal. You can use them twice a day to refine pores and use as a spot treatment. The problem I had with this is that I didn’t find they layered well with oils which I use a lot of and I didn’t particularly notice any benefit from them. They didn’t seem strong enough to make any difference to my skin. For me the Plantastic products I’ve tried (the other being the cleansing balm) have been duds.

I wouldn’t buy these again, I’m going to go back to using an acid toner (Jane Scrivner Skinfoliate) every other day which I find works better for me.

Skin Republic Foot Peel Foot Mask

Hi beauties,

I have a confession to make: I have seriously scabby feet. I mean so scabby I would be totally ashamed to post a picture of them. Think yellow heels….I’ll leave that lovely thought with you.

So I thought I have to do something about them. I struggle using my electric pedi thing, I find to make any difference I have to use it constantly and my back just won’t let me. I had heard of all these foot peels and I wanted to see if they would make a difference to my horrendous trotters.

I chose Skin Republic’s Foot Peel and used it for the hour and a half that was prescribed. It was only near the end of treatment that my feet started to tingle a bit but other than that it was completely painless.

It was after 7 days that I started to notice some peeling, only on the upper side of my foot which is baby soft. This product made no difference on my heels and stubborn skin under my big toe at all. So a complete waste of time.

Luckily I didn’t pay full price for this, it was one of my choices for my Latest in Beauty Box. I certainly wouldn’t be shelling out a tenner to peel the tops of my feet which are perfectly fine. Very disappointed, and I know I have to bite the bullet and go to the salon.

Jane Scrivner Skinfoliate*

Hi beauties,

Earlier on in the year I was very lucky to receive a gift parcel from the lovely Jane Scrivner and included was a bottle of Skinfoliate.

Skinfoliate is Jane’s organic AHA and BHA exfoliator, the formula is made up of Malic, Glycolic, Lactic, and Citric Acids to target the skin at different levels. There is also a blend of both AHA and BHA from pineapple, burdock, bilberry, orange, lemon, sugar maple, witchazel, white willow and raw organic apple cider vinegar.

The AHA’s in Skinfoliate target the cells on the upper layers of the skin, working to dissolve the glue that holds them to the surface while the BHA’s target lower levels, to exfoliate the pores which is ideal for oilier skins. This multi acid approach means it will sweep away dead skin cells to refine the texture of your skin, as well as encourage collagen and elastin production.

Skinfoliate is a daily resurfacer, I don’t use it every day as my skin can’t take the use of acids daily. I prefer to use this every other night with the use of a mask on a Sunday, that keeps my skin happy and also lovely and smooth. You can smell the apple cider vinegar but I don’t find it unpleasant at all, in fact I prefer it over some of the chemical smell you can get with acids. Also Skinfoliate comes in a generous 150ml size, I’ve been using it frequently and still have a lot left! Just saturate a cotton pad and apply it to your face, neck and décolleté, as Mrs Hirons says “takeittothetits”! You can find this at http://www.janescrivner.com, a 150ml bottle is £26.00. A big thank you to Jane for sending me this wonderful product to try, another product from the range that is fantastic and a joy to use.

Merumaya Skin Brightening Exfoliating Peel*

Hi beauties

I have got Merumaya Skin Brightening Exfoliating Peel today, this was very kindly sent to me by the brand before Christmas. I love their Cleansing Balm, in my opinion it is the best emulsifying balm on the market and so affordable, it’s under £20!

Back to the product at hand, Skin Brightening Exfoliating Peel is a great formula, it uses glycolic acid as well as enzymes for an easy to use peel that is quick to boot.

The peel is a gel texture that is easy to apply, no grains (which I don’t like to use anymore as I have some broken capillaries) smooth it over your skin and leave on for 5-15 minutes depending on your skin’s tolerance/amount of time you have. I really like that you can leave it on longer for a more intense result.

Skin Brightening Exfoliating Peel has the same beautiful fragrance as the gorgeous Cleansing Balm which makes it such a pleasure to use. It makes my skin feel smooth, and looking brighter. No redness or irritation for me afterwards, just lovely feeling smooth clean skin. And who doesn’t want that?? Brilliant value too at £21.00 for 50ml, check it out at http://www.merumaya.com

Gatineau Radiance Enhancing Gommage

Hi beauties,

Today is the turn of Gatineau Radiance Enhancing Gommage. This is part of the Activ Éclat range which promotes Radiance.  Gommage is French for exfoliation and this is a great salon-type Treatment that you don't need to go to a salon to get the benefit from.

Radiance Enhancing Gommage is an enzymatic exfoliator so no micro beads which is great for the environment and no particles which is great for skin that can't really use manual exfoliation like mine.

The ingredients are: Isononyl Isononanoate, Triethylhexanoin, Octyldodeceth-25, Aqua (water) Eau>, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Phenoxyethanol, Bisabolol, Propylene Glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Limonene, Parfum , Malic Acid, Pyrus Malus , Butylene Glycol, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid,peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Citric Acid, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glycine Soja (soybean) Oil, Hydrolyzed Triticum Monococcum Seed Extract, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, bacillus Ferment, Corallina Officinalis Extract, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Tocopherol, Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Red 40 (CI 16035).

Radiance Enhancing Gommage is packed with Vitamin C to encourage brightness, it's a pearlised gel texture that you spread over your skin and you leave it until it turns from the Gel to a water-like texture. That takes a couple of minutes making this exfoliator so easy to use. You can rinse it off in the shower or remove it with a cloth and you are left with smoother, brighter more glowing skin.

I love this, for the ease of use and the results. I have been using this for a very long time, I can't even remember when I bought it! It was in a kit from QVC which for me is the best way of buying Gatineau, separately it is available for £35.00 for a 75ml tube from http://www.feelunique.com.

Grounded Coffee Scrub

image

Hi lovelies

If you haven’t tried a coffee scrub before, where have you been?? Ok, I have only tried one in the last couple of months but these are new scrubs on the block, kicking those with plastic microbeads in the pants! Ok so mixed metaphors there but I’m sure you get what I mean!

This scrub is from Grounded Body Scrub and I won it as part of a prize from lovely Nikki Taylor from Taylor Made Beauty. It is made by ground Robusta Coffee beans, Himayalan rock salt and brown sugar and packs a punch with caffeine. It’s rougher than your average body scrub so I wouldn’t use it on the face, but this bad boy is amazing on the body. Vitamin E and Cold Pressed Sweet Almond Oil is also included, so it’s definitely moisturises as well as thoroughly exfoliates your skin.

On opening the package you are hit with the most gorgeous aroma, I received the Chocolate Orange version so by the end of my shower I smelled like a popular chocolate confection! And that beautiful smell did last a few hours after my shower too. You grab a small handful of scrub and apply it to damp skin, you are supposed to leave it on for 10 minutes, I didn’t as I can’t stand in the shower for that long. The results for me is fantastic! Smooth and soft skin feeling moisturised and comfortable. You don’t have to use a body lotion afterwards if you don’t want to due to the Sweet Almond Oil in the scrub. I find lotions do sink in much more easily after using and I tend to use it twice a week. I have to be a bit careful as I do have eczema so I don’t rub too hard whilst applying.

Grounded Coffee Scrub really is a pleasure to use, they have other fragrances such as, coconut, mint and grapefruit as well as the chocolate orange that I have. It’s available from http://www.groundedbodyscrub.co.uk and Boots and is £15.00 for a 200ml bag.
