Dr Organic Organic Dead Sea Mineral Hand and Nail Treatment

image

Hi beauties,

Dr Organic is another brand I am a huge fan of, it is an award winning free from range using certified organic ingredients and natural extracts. The brand has many sub ranges and Organic Dead Sea Minerals Hand & Nail Treatment is just one product from the Organic Dead Sea Minerals collection.

Dead Sea minerals are used quite widely in cosmetics thanks to their trace elements of magnesium, iodine, sodium, calcium and potassium which can be very beneficial to skin. As regular readers know I suffer with eczema on my body and psoriasis of the scalp so I like to try and find products that don’t have mineral oils such as petrolatum (they just don’t work for me) and have more natural emollients like Shea Butter and Cooca Butter.

The base of this hand cream is Aloe Vera Juice, Sweet Almond Oil and Shea Butter so it sinks in very easily without leaving a greasy residue. It leaves your skin beautifully soft and smooth with a lovely, fresh, uplifting scent. It’s not floral or sweet so I think this would be a great unisex hand cream. It’s a brilliant day time hand cream, it’s quick to pop on and you don’t need a lot. A size of a pea is adequate for your hands, I would use a wee bit more if you did want to use it for your cuticles. I’ve used many of the Dr Organic hand creams before and can recommend them for their excellent quality and great value. Dr Organic Organic Dead Sea Minerals Hand and Nail Treatment is available from Holland and Barrett at £6.99 for 100ml.

Alpha H Age Delay Hand Cream*

image

Hi lovelies,

Today’s hand cream choice is Alpha H Age Delay Hand Cream which has been on my list for I don’t know how long, so when I got a 30ml size in my QVC Beauty Bash goody bag I was very pleased!

I am a fan of Alpha H, they are an Australian brand who specialise in exfoliation with Glycolic Acid, their hero being Liquid Gold which I use 3 nights a week. So it’s not a surprise to see Glycolic in this hand cream. It has a light lemony fresh fragrance and you don’t need to use a lot.

I am sorry to jump in with a negative point straight away, but I find I can only use this once a day or my skin at the top of my fingers literally starts to peel. This must be down to the 10% Glycolic Acid content. However, using it as a cuticle remover a few times a week is fantastic! I usually paint my nails after my afternoon nap, so I remove all polish in the morning and then pop oil and this hand cream around my cuticles. It gets rid of the dead skin and makes it so easy for me to push my cuticles back. I wash my hands a lot and find my cuticles get very dry and I find in small doses this is extremely effective. It is also quite greasy, but if you are only using it at night or with gloves like I do then it’s ok.

I don’t have pigmentation on my hands so this isn’t a concern for me, I have read a lot of reviews where people find that Age Delay is really good for evening out skin tone on the backs of hands. Alpha H say this is a manicure in a tube and I think as an intensive cuticle treatment it is brilliant. It’s the best cream I have tried for cuticle removal and will use this from now on for that purpose meaning a standard 100ml tube will last a very long time. A duo is available from http://www.qvcuk.com for £25.00.

Till next time,

CND Solar Oil

image

Hi beauties,

I love a cuticle oil and CND Solar Oil is always in my manicure kit. It is a wonderfully moisturising oil that I mainly use during the day as it is lighter than my usual OPI Avoplex.

Solar Oil is a gorgeous oil and has an almondy fragrance to it that I wasn’t sure about when I first tried it, but now I love it. If you know L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil the scent is very similar, not marzipan just fresh almond. It is a highly nourishing oil but very lightweight so great for use during the day, I just pop some on – I don’t even bother rubbing it in as it sinks in so well and then get on with whatever I am doing.

I couldn’t be without cuticle oil, I know you really don’t need a specific oil for your nails as just a single ingredient oil would still be good but I find both Solar Oil and Avoplex more pleasurable to use due to scent and texture for nails and hands. I think that oil is as important as a strengthening treatment in your nail routine and highly recommend their use. It’s also really good for using on your hands underneath a hand cream for extra hydration.

The ingredient listing is: Sweet Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Vitamin E and Parfum. This combination of oils work very well for me, you can use this when you have nail enhancements too.

I either buy mine from eBay or Amazon where I can usually get it for around £6.00.

Naturally European Classique Milk Luxury Hand Cream

Hi lovelies,

Every Wednesday for the next few weeks is going to be a hand cream review, I’ve tried so many new ones lately I thought I would do a wee series on them.

I’m starting with Naturally European Milk Hand and Nail Cream. This is a really good dupe for the very famous L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream which I do love but find quite expensive.

Milk Hand and Nail Cream contains 20% shea butter so it is extremely rich, it isn’t one of those I necessarily would use during the day as it is a wee bit greasy and you have to rub it in for a while. However saying that, it is really good for very dry hands, so if you suffer with excessively dry skin this is a great option. Brilliant for cuticles too, I have also used it on my feet overnight and it leaves them so soft and helps heals awful cracks that I always seem to have.

I also love the scent of this, very fresh and clean, so similar to the L’Occitane not overpowering and suitable for all ages. It reminds me of the smell of Dove products, lovely fresh white flowers but it’s not sickly. I love to use it as part of my wind down routine for bed, I find it soothing.

The Naturally European is very good value, at only £6.75 for 75ml and it lasts for such a long time as you need so
little. It is available from http://www.amazon.co.uk

Caudalie Divine Oil*

image

This is another product that really lives up to its name Caudalie Divine Oil. It’s a gorgeous hydrating dry oil that you can use for hair, face and body. I do love things that are multitasking.

I tried it first as a facial oil, it is a rich dry oil (I know that sounds like an oxymoron) but what I mean is it gives excellent hydration without a nasty greasy residue. 3 drops is all that is needed for face and neck and it dries very quickly. It has the most gorgeous woody and floral fragrance that isn’t overpowering.

I have also used it on my cuticles and underneath my hand cream at night for a more intense hand treatment, again ideal as it’s dry texture sinks in and I’m able to pop a lotion over the top. You can put a few drops in the bath as well so I will try it when I next go for a soak.

I have a 15ml bottle that I was given in my QVCUK beauty bash goody bag* and I will definitely be buying a full size bottle which is £22.50 and available at http://www.qvcuk.com.

Elemis Jasmine and Rose

Hello beauties,

These two beautiful products I got in last year’s Elemis QVC TSV and luckily as I was able to get so many I still have quite a bit left!

I will start with the Jasmine and Rose Milk Bath. With exotic aromatic oils of Egyptian Jasmine and Turkish Rose Absolute, this cleansing milk bath has been specially formulated to promote a sense of serenity and calm. Nourishing Argan Oil and Camellia Seed Oil protect and moisturise the skin, whilst flower milks of Jasmine and White Lotus leave skin feeling beautifully soft and delicately fragranced. It  is such a soothing and rich formula and great for dry skin.

The scent is utterly gorgeous, I thought it may be overpowering and dare I say a little old fashioned. However I was completely wrong, it is so beautiful and calming. I use this in both the bath and shower and when I go away for a weekend I use it as a shampoo to cut down on toiletries. The fragrance lasts a long time when used like this! It also leaves your hair feeling soft so there is no compromise when you do use it as a shortcut.

The Jasmine and Rose Hand and Nail Cream is also a joy to use, it includes the same flower milks and nourishing oils of the milk bath as well as the beautiful fragrance. Regular readers will know that I am a bit of a connoisseur of hand creams and I am extremely fussy when it comes to formulation. As it’s Elemis there is nothing synthetic or mineral oils (which I hate) so it is a real treatment for hands and nails. It’s non greasy and sinks into your skin very quickly, leaving the gorgeous scent and silky soft skin. When I have been doing an essential manicure I soak my hands in the milk bath and then when I have finished all the filing and cuticle work I massage in the cream into my hands and nails. It’s a real treat.

These two products work together wonderfully, they are concentrated so you only need a small amount. In the shower I use the milk bath on a shower puff and you get the most rich, moisturising lather that leaves my dry skin smooth and conditioned.

If you are looking for a special gift for someone you couldn’t go wrong with either, the milk bath is £42.00 for 400ml the hand cream is £18.00 for 100ml both available from elemis.com.

Favourite hand creams

Hi you lovely people,

Ok, so I’ve talked about two of these products before (Click here for manicure favourites) but I wanted to include a few others for a hand cream post. I am addicted to hand creams, I try so many it’s crazy. I don’t think I would actually be able to tell you how many I have, they are in so many places and I am so fickle when it comes to them but these definitely are the ones that I do repurchase time and time again.  In fact, they live on my bedside cabinet and I interchange the first 3 during the day as I use hand cream every time I wash my hands. (Yes, it really is an addiction…) the last 1 is a treatment I apply before bed.

If you’ve read the blog before I don’t think you would be surprised to see a Liz Earle product in a favourites list! I can’t remember when I tried this as I’ve used it for so many years now and I do use it every day. This is the gorgeous Liz Earle Hand Repair. It’s a rich cream, but leaves a matte finish so it’s a great day time use hand cream. The fragrance is beautiful, bergamot, chamomile, neroli and lavender, delicate and slightly floral. It’s not the cheapest, a 150ml pump is £21.00 but to be fair it does last me a very long time and as I interchange creams during the day (depending on what fragrance I fancy at any one time) little does go a very long way.
The second more luxury hand cream is the beautiful La Source Hand Therapy from Crabtree & Evelyn. This is a gorgeous macadamia ternifolia seed oil base with shea butter which is super hydrating but not at all greasy. It does leave a very slight sheen on your skin and the scent is so uplifting and fresh, it’s quite aquatic so I think very unisex. It leaves my hands so soft, smooth and helps to prevent the dreaded cracks I can get thanks to my super dry skin. I would say that La Source is slightly more hydrating than Liz Earle Hand Repair due to the richer formula. It is more economical too in a 250g pump bottle for £20.00.

So this is my budget option, which is Dr Organic Lavender Skin Lotion. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned my love of lavender before but if I haven’t it’s official: I adore it! This lotion is beautiful, it contains shea butter and cocoa butter so it’s rich without being greasy. I think you can see a theme going on here, I love shea butter formulations but I’m not keen on grease! The fragrance is pure lavender, almost herby and so relaxing, I do use this as a body lotion too at night especially when I’ve been having trouble sleeping. The lotion leaves my skin so soft and conditioned, I love using it at any time. I am a huge fan of the Dr Organic range, and it is great value at 200ml tube for £6.49.

This is my treatment hand cream which I use before bed time as it is much more concentrated than the others, the legendary L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. I use this every night as part of my wind down routine, the texture is much thicker and can be quite greasy if you use too much. The smell is beautiful ylang ylang and jasmine, is clean and fresh, quite like original Dove hand wash and because I do wash my hands a lot (and also change nail polish frequently) my hands do get dry. In Winter I can use it during the day if needed, I just need to remember to use not so much as I do at night, I usually pop a thicker layer on then to get more benefit overnight. If my hands are very bad, then I slather cuticle oil all over my nails and hands, use a good amount of Shea Butter hand cream, then I put on a pair of cotton gloves and sleep with them on. Not a sexy look I admit, but sometimes needed!! L’Occitane Shea Butter hand cream is £19.00 for a 150ml tube.

It was quite hard to just put 4 on this list as I said before I have so many tubes of hand cream I could literally open a store, but to be favourites they have to be products that have been replaced at least 3 times.

What are your favourite hand creams? Let me know your thoughts.

Lucy xxx
