White Rabbit Comfort Cleansing Balm

Hi beauties,

I have another British brand White Rabbit Skincare and their Cleansing Balm today, White Rabbit is a luxury vegan skincare company based in Scotland. I think everyone can agree that animal testing has no place in the modern beauty industry, (I can’t believe a brand such as Nars are going into the Chinese market, where animal testing is mandatory – I think that shows the greed on behalf of Shiseido but that is another rant for another day). White Rabbit go further than this , using no animal derivatives such as beeswax making them Vegan friendly and I am thrilled to see no petrochemicals (I am sure you all know my utter hatred of mineral oil!!) or SLS, artificial colours, fragrances or ingredients. Products are made in small batches by hand to ensure quality. Also the brand use and recycle packaging – there is a loyalty bonus for sending in your packaging to be recycled.

So down to the product! It’s base is Shea Butter, Castor Seed Oil, Olive Oil and Olive Wax with essential oils of Rosemary, Eucalyptus and Lavender. The balm has a waxy-like texture, take a small amount and rub between your hands and apply to dry skin. I LOVE the smell of this balm, herby and refreshing, it leaves your skin feeling so clean. I have to be really thorough to make sure I remove it properly as it does not emulsify (which is my preference for cleansing balms). I find it takes off makeup very well, including mascara. When I test any cleanser I always to my “mascara test”. this means slathering on lots of layers of mascara in the morning so it’s had time to dry, before doing my evening cleanse. I also do that with all the mascaras I have too (I like many of you have more than one!!) so I can get a good idea of the cleansers effectiveness. After that, I sweep some micellar water over my eyes to see if there is any residue. My skin was left feeling soft, smooth and most importantly clean! Drier skin types I think will like this too as the cleanser definitely lives up to its name by being comforting.

I found this brand through You Beauty Box and tested the 15ml size which is £3.00, the full size is £15.00 for 100ml so very affordable. I do love it when a brand does travel/discovery sizes, great for trying products and of course putting them in your travel bag. You can buy from http://www.whiterabbitskincare.co.uk.

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer

Hi beauties,

I am a bit of a primer snob, it’s ok I admit it. Having oily skin that shines through makeup within 20 minutes even when I use a primer means I don’t really rate them, I am still looking for that holy grail one that will actually work.

So when I saw that The Ordinary had bought out a two primers, I thought I would try one, I plumped for the High Adherence Silicone Primer. I suppose it was daft of me to get this one, I don’t overly enjoy the feeling of silicone on my skin, but the price was so affordable I thought I would take a punt.

Boy I really wish I hadn’t!! It is so wet-feeling on the skin, it doesn’t feel like it can dry down to be able to apply makeup on top. I don’t think it is for my skin type, I think potentially this would be better for drier skins. I tried it with my liquid BB Cream and my Bare Minerals Original foundation but the dreaded shine came through just as quickly as without primer – which is so bloody annoying!

I know it’s not a fortune, but it is frustrating. It actually puts me off wearing makeup because of the dreaded shine. I hate having to powder down, it’s the time it takes as well as the potential for your makeup to become cakey, no matter the lightest weight products. So the hunt for a decent primer continues….

Gatineau Radiance Enhancing Gommage

Hi beauties,

Today is the turn of Gatineau Radiance Enhancing Gommage. This is part of the Activ Éclat range which promotes Radiance.  Gommage is French for exfoliation and this is a great salon-type Treatment that you don't need to go to a salon to get the benefit from.

Radiance Enhancing Gommage is an enzymatic exfoliator so no micro beads which is great for the environment and no particles which is great for skin that can't really use manual exfoliation like mine.

The ingredients are: Isononyl Isononanoate, Triethylhexanoin, Octyldodeceth-25, Aqua (water) Eau>, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Phenoxyethanol, Bisabolol, Propylene Glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Limonene, Parfum , Malic Acid, Pyrus Malus , Butylene Glycol, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid,peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Citric Acid, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glycine Soja (soybean) Oil, Hydrolyzed Triticum Monococcum Seed Extract, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, bacillus Ferment, Corallina Officinalis Extract, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Tocopherol, Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Red 40 (CI 16035).

Radiance Enhancing Gommage is packed with Vitamin C to encourage brightness, it's a pearlised gel texture that you spread over your skin and you leave it until it turns from the Gel to a water-like texture. That takes a couple of minutes making this exfoliator so easy to use. You can rinse it off in the shower or remove it with a cloth and you are left with smoother, brighter more glowing skin.

I love this, for the ease of use and the results. I have been using this for a very long time, I can't even remember when I bought it! It was in a kit from QVC which for me is the best way of buying Gatineau, separately it is available for £35.00 for a 75ml tube from http://www.feelunique.com.

You Beauty Box July

Hi beauties

It's You Beauty time again, which is my favourite time of the month! I get ridiculously excited about seeing what products ar going to be on the shortlist when the first of the month rolls around.

So from July's shortlist, I chose:

  • Hawaiian Tropic Air Soft Face SPF30
  • Simple Micellar Cleansing Water
  • Skin Chemists Aqua Repair Facial serum
  • Green People Age Defy 24 hour Brightening Moisturiser
  • St Tropez In Shower Gradual Tan in medium (Gold subscribers only)

I am looking forward to testing out the SPF, I usually wear a Ultrasun Face 50 but I do find this heavy so I thought I would give Hawaiian Tropic a try, I've not tried the brand before. Also looking forward to seeing how Simple's Micellar water compares to the Garnier and Boots I have already tried. I am not sure I will use the St Tropez gradual tanner, I don't faux tan at all anymore as I am far too lazy. Pale and interesting is the way forward you know!!

If you want to find more about the You subscriptions available go to http://www.box.you.co.uk.

B. Restored Eye Cream

Hi beauties,

Today is the turn of B. Restored Eye Cream that I have been testing recently. I bought this in a skincare Haul from Superdrug a few months ago while they had a half price promotion.

I think Eye creams disappoint more than any other Skincare product. The eye area is so delicate and there are numerous issues, dark circles, fine lines, wrinkles, hooding etc. that makes finding a perfect eye cream difficult.

B. Restored is a Phase 3 product for late 40’s, I know I’m not there yet but my lines underneath my eyes are my big concern. Lack of sleep and pain take its toll and shows here first, so I thought it might be a bit of a heavier hitter than a product for my age group (late 30’s).

This is more of a gel texture, which is cooling and pleasant. It sinks in easily and looks hydrating but only for about 5 minutes. The claims made about this Eye Cream such as locking in moisture, plumping and restoring elasticity don’t hold up. I find my eyes getting a little crepey and this didn’t do anything to tighten the area at all. My lines are still very prominent after applying in a way that I don’t get with Liz Earle Superskin Eye Cream or my beloved Gatineau Melatogenine Eye Concentrate, so I can’t see (pardon the pun!!) how this could be geared for an older age group. I wouldn’t necessarily say my lines are any worse than my friends of the same age so this does rather fall short.

I’m so disappointed, I had high hopes B. Restored, I think if you are in your 20’s and are looking for a hydrating gel/eye cream this may be ok, but certainly not if you are seeing signs of ageing. B. Restored is £10.99 for 15ml and available at Superdrug.

June Glossybox

Hi beauties

I haven’t tried a subscription from Glossybox before so when I saw there was 50% off for the month of June, I thought I would dive in and see what the traditional beauty box is like. My You Beauty Box has products that I am able to choose myself, so I always know what I am getting.

Glossybox sends 5 products, a combination of full and sample sizes for £10.00 plus £3.95 for delivery. I received:

  • Eness Arian Oil hand cream
  • Batiste Heat Protect and Shine Spray
  • 111 Skin Space Defence Bright Eye Lift Gel
  • Sleek Power Plump Lip Crayon in Collosal Coral
  • Manna Kadar Sheer Glo Illuminator

This was a good box for me, I like the mix of products and there isn’t one I won’t use so I am pretty impressed. I am going to get the next month’s box too to compare to see whether or not I will carry on with the subscription. You can sign up at http://www.glossybox.co.uk.

Kind Natured Nourishing Amber and Pink Pepper Body Wash

Hi beauties,

I’ve got another product from Kind Natured today, after I had tested Kind Natured Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner and loved them, I picked up a tube of Nourishing Amber and Pink Pepper Body Wash when I was browsing in Boots.

I adore spicy, musky scents and I find them completely intoxicating so I knew I would love this. The fragrance is absolutely beautiful, yes it has spice with the Pink Pepper and Ginger but it’s balanced with Lavender, Lemon, Orange, Juniper, Lime, Tea Tree and many others, it is quite a complex fragrance. It’s warming in a musk kind of way rather than the pepper, I find it really comforting.

There are no silicones, parabens, sulfates and petrochemicals which are ingredients I try and avoid. You don’t need to use much, 10p on a shower puff is more than enough to wash your whole body. Currently there isn’t a matching body lotion (although there is a bath soak) so I have requested that Kind Natured make one! I use this as a handwash too, and it never strips your skin. It’s £4.99 for a 250ml tube so fantastic value, and is available from Boots.
