Amie Petal Perfect Gently Cleansing Micellar Water and New Leaf Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish

Hello beauty lovers,

Today I have some great products from a lovely British brand Amie, I first discovered Amie a long time ago when I bought their moisturiser Favourite moisturisers and when I was researching my Budget Beauty post too. Amie was created by Fiona Parkhouse who was searching for a solution for her daughter Samantha who was experiencing oiliness and breakouts but her skin was also very sensitive. Fiona wanted Samantha to use products that were kinder to her skin, not the traditional harsh treatments for spot prone teenage skin. The range was created with dermatologist Dr Susan Mayou of London Cadogan Clinic using more natual ingredients for skincare that is actually effective.

I am a big fan of the Morning Clear Facial Wash, (review in my budget beauty post, link above) and the brand very kindly sent me their Petal Perfect Gently Cleansing Micellar Water and New Leaf Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish. I have been testing out the Micellar Water for about 4 weeks and used it for makeup removal as well as a morning/evening cleanse. I can honestly say I love it! It has a beautiful rose fragrance due to the Rose Damascena Flower Oil, I would say if you are sensitive around the eyes, this may not be the one for you, however I am fine and it really does blitz mascara and eyeshadow (I don’t wear liner) and also other makeup. I do double cleanse so if I am wearing makeup I have been using this as my remover and there is nothing left on the cotton pad afterwards. And, no residue on my muslin following a balm, oil or cream cleanse either.

The New Leaf Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish is a wee bit too strong for my skin as it contains grains, I have broken capillaries so it’s not advisable but if you like scrubs this is a good one to try. I have used it as a body/hand scrub and my skin felt so clean and soft after use. You will find your skincare will sink in so much easily after exfoliation so it’s a brilliant step to slot into your routine.

Amie is a great brand, so I didn’t think I would be disappointed, I personally find the makeup removal is superior to my usual Garnier Micellar Water and as the title suggests gentle on my skin. What is also excellent are the prices, at £4.95 and £5.95 respectively the products are great value and also last a long time. On the high street they are available in Waitrose and online at Waitrose, Victoria Health and Beauty At Creightons.

Nail Rehab Strengthening Treatment

Hi beauties,

I’ve been testing a nail brand that is new to me Nail HQ. It’s a British brand, one I had heard of before but never seen in my local stores.

The brand have 3 treatments, Hardner, Stregthener and Growth. The brand very kindly sent me their Growth Treatment to try along with their Cuticle oil. Growth has Biotin, Caffeine and Pentavitin which helps to retain moisture in nails, to reduce breakage and splitting.

I used Growth as a base coat and used my colour as normal, it is a fab base coat definitely holding onto colour as well as my beloved Nail Envy, it really seems to grab the colour like a matte base does.

I also found that my nails were less dry! Due to all the polish changes I do my nails are drier and although I use a lot of oil and lotions the polish remover does naturally remove some this. I used Growth for about 4 weeks and during this time I did not have any breaks or peeling at all, moisture seemed to stay in my nails for longer too. I’m very impressed with this product and would definitely recommend it to someone with a drier nail plate.

I was very surprised and perhaps unfairly so as Nail HQ products are extremely reasonably priced, Growth is at £6.99 which in my opinion is a bargain. I will be completely honest (as I always am) and say I didn’t use the Cuticle oil as it contains mineral oil and as you guys know, that is an ingredient I don’t use.

I would like to say a big thank you to lovely Giulia at Catalyst PR and Nail HQ for the opportunity to try Growth, it’s a wee gem! Nail HQ products are available at Amazon, Tesco and Superdrug.

Bare Minerals Beautifully Radiant Collection

Hello beauties

This is the latest TSV from Bare Minerals Beautifully Radiant Collection from QVC, this is such a fabulous set and I was so pleased to see the Complexion Rescue as I have always wanted to try it.

The kit contained:

8g Original SPF15 Foundation; full size, my shade is Fairly Light

35ml Complexion Rescue; full size the shade with Fairly Light is Vanilla

0.85g Mineral Blush in Exuberance full size

Moxie Lip Gloss in Californian Dreamer, full size

New Stroke of Light Highlighter, full size

2 handbag sized full flawless face brush and Complexion smoothing brush.

I’m a huge fan of Bare Minerals and have been for years, the Original foundation is pretty much the only base I wear as it’s so easy to use and great for my oily skin. This is the look I have created with the kit (minus the lip gloss, I hate them so that went to my best friend straight away lol) the only thing I have added is some mascara and a BM lipstick in Get Ready.

I used both bases so started off with Complexion Rescue and put my Original foundation over the top as I wanted extra coverage. I then applied the Exuberance blush which is a gorgeous rose tone, I love these kind of shades as they really suit my skintone without being too garish. I always look better with a bit of blush, without it I’m a bit too washed out.

Next I used the Stroke of Light highlighter which is a peach tone, I only used a tiny bit on my cheeks and underneath my brow just to add a bit of lustre and light. The brushes are just the right size for me, I do have quite a small face so find some brushes are too big for my face, these are brilliant especially for the blush.

I’m really pleased with this collection and it’s one I will get a lot of use! I have worn the Complexion Rescue on its own and really like the light coverage you get and you can build on that with more or add your Minerals over the top as I have done here. My only criticism is that they always put lip glosses in TSV’s and I don’t ever wear them, more lipsticks please! This was excellent value at under £44 and thankfully on 4 easy pays so I was able to get this one. Thank you BM and QVC!

Pure Potions Skin Salvation

Hi beauties

Today is the turn of Pure Potions Skin Salvation Intensive Moisturising Ointment, I was interested in trying this as in Winter my eczema always gets worse and harder to control.

Natalie Balmond created Pure Potions in her own kitchen to try to find a natural alternative to use on her daughter’s very dry, itchy and sore skin. Natalie tried the typical emollients and steroid creams prescribed by her GP but found these stung and irritated Lula’s skin further. Natalie began experimenting with natural ingredients to create something that would help soothe and repair Lula’s skin.

The ingredients used are Olive Oil, Beeswax, Safflower Seed Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Calendula extract, Camomile extract, Chickweed extract and Nettle extract. Skin Salvation is a very thick Balm-like texture, it’s certainly moisturising in fact I still found after my shower the next day, I could still feel it on my skin. It definitely provides a barrier to keep out external irritants, unfortunately my Lidocaine painkilling patches would not stay on because of the residue left. This is such a shame, because the patches do dry out my skin and I need to use them practically every day at this time of year

However, if you do suffer with dry, sore and itchy skin do give this a try. Skin Salvation really does bring relief to all kind of skin conditions. I also tried it on my feet overnight and the difference the next day was fabulous. It’s a great product to have in your first aid kit!

Skin Salvation Intensive Moistursing Ointment is available from http://www.purepotions.co.uk and starts from £7.99 for a 30ml jar.

Philosophy Take A Deep Breath

Hi lovelies,

I have Philosophy Take A Deep Breath Oil Free Moisturiser today, it was a choice from one of my You Beauty Boxes and as I haven’t tried any skincare from the brand only shower products, I was really looking forward to trying it.

I don’t make a conscious effort to choose Oil free moisturisers because personally (and saying this as an oily skinned person) because I think Oil is important especially to help balance your skin whether oily or dry. However lighter moisturisers can be great for layering with serums/oils and of course for the warmer times of the year.

Take A Deep Breath is a beautiful light texture with a fresh fragrance, it seemed to sink in quickly and it did layer well with a oils and serums I tried it with, no rolling or pilling and it did glide on smoothly. I really enjoyed the feeling of it and my skin felt very comfortable, the only problem was 20 minutes later my face was a total greaseball!!

It was only today when I came to write this up I went to look at the ingredients. And I am sure you can all guess what I am going to say next lol, yes it contains the dreaded mineral oil Iso-paraffin. I had wondered why such a light cream made my skin so greasy and of course this makes total sense. It’s such a shame as I liked this moisturiser, but it leaves far too much of a awful residue. I checked on the UK Philosophy site and it doesn’t seem to be available here yet, it is $40.00 on the US website so I’m guessing it will be around the £3o.00 price point.

As always, this is just the experience I had with my skin, it may be totally different for you especially if you have opposite skin to mine. It hasn’t put me off trying any more from the brand, I actually want to try the famous Hope In A Jar and Purity Made Simple so I will be hopefully trying them at some point.

Decleor Phytopeel

Hello beauties,

Today it is the turn of Decleor Phytopeel which has turned into possibly my most favourite exfoliator for a number of reasons.

I discovered it only recently although I know it has been in the Decleor range for some time. I have turned to enzymatic and exfoliators without grains as my skin just doesn’t like them and they can break me out. I can’t find the exact ingredient listing (which does annoy me to be honest) however this works with Green Clay, essential oils of Thyme, Lavender, Marjoram, Lemon, plant extracts of Elder Tree, Burdock and fruit enzymes.

You apply a thick layer of this and let it sink in, it’s quite easy to apply, swipe it all over your skin until it is white. When it has sunk in you can start to remove it. Make sure you do this over a sink as it is messy! You literally roll it off your skin in gentle, sweeping movements. Don’t rub or scrub, it will come off just by rolling off. This is the most satisfying exfoliator to use, you will see all the dead skin fall into the sink, disgusting but oh so good lol. I remove any residue with a warm cloth and my skin is left feeling so soft and smooth. I always do a mask afterwards and I have a few hydrating ones and find they always work better when I’ve used Phytopeel. This is great to use once or twice a week and especially when your skin is looking dull and all products you use afterwards will go into your skin more easily. Phytopeel is available from http://www.decleor.co.uk and is £27.50 for a 50ml tube.
