You Beauty Box August 2016

Hi lovelies,

I have August’s You Beauty Box today, I really like this box as they are sample sizes but there are different plans starting at just £6.95 for 2 products. This month I chose to go for the Gold membership for 4 products and I had 2 extra included with a discount brochure.

I chose:

111Skin Bio Cellulose Facial Treatment Mask (1 mask)

The Bodyshop Oils of Life (7ml sample)

Bloom and Blossom Rejuvenating Facial Spritz (40ml sample)

This Works In Transit Camera Close Up (20ml sample)

A sample of Verso Super Facial Serum With Retinol and Beverly Hills Formula Whitening Black Toothpaste were also added to the box.

All of these are new to me, so I can’t wait to get testing! I’ve wanted to try The Body Shop Oils of Life for a long time as I have read rave reviews of it and also the This Works In Transit Camera close up. I do think it’s good value obviously not as good as my usual Blogger Beauty Box, but for trying out some new products you have enough with the samples to test them and get a good feeling of whether they suit you or not. The boxes are available and prices start at £6.95 including delivery.

Hi Beauties,

I have another preview for you for an Elemis Today’s Special Value for this Sunday 4th September 2016. In the collection is the brand new BIOTEC Cleanser, Day Cream and Oxygenating Night Cream.

This collection sees a departure from Elemis main skincare range by including 2 products from their innovative BIOTEC range. The BIOTEC system is clinically proven to increase cell energy for optimum skin health. It is for skin that is dull, tired and not responding to current skincare. BIOTEC consists of a cleanser, day cream and night cream.

BIOTEC Skin Energising Cleanser is a gel wash off cleanser that can be your morning cleanser and the second step in your double cleanse routine in the evening after makeup removal. It contains a trio of acids in an energising electrolyte solution for brightening and rejuvenation of your skin.

BIOTEC Skin Energising Day Cream is scientifically proven to increase cell energy with encapsulated Zinc and Copper, antioxidants and Water Plantain to improve skin tone, leave skin feeling smooth and nourished. It is a dual formula with a gel side and a cream side that you mix together in your hand prior to application.

Pro Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream is the last product in the collection, this moisturiser firms and smooths your skin, helping with your skins natural regeneration process. It increases the level of oxygen in your skin to help with free radical protection and the Padina Pavonica seaweed helps with the reduction of wrinkles.

The price for the collection is to be confirmed however it should be under the price of the night cream which is £60.00. The BIOTEC cleanser is £39.50 so as usual it represents a huge saving on the usual retail prices. Tune into QVCUK at midnight on Sunday 4th of September to order yours.

Nails of The Day

Hi lovelies,

It’s Mani Monday and another OPI offering with You’re Such a Budapest and I Lost My Bikini in Molokini. You all probably know I love my blurples and there is something about the gloss you get from creme finishes in Summer that I so enjoy wearing. Of course my beloved Seche Vite always ensures I get the shiniest, glossiest effect that light bounces from.

I really liked the look of You’re Such a Budapest in the bottle, a light blue/purple that is such a versatile addition to my collection. However, the formula is SO thin!! I was very disappointed with this formula, I don’t think it is up to the usual OPI standard at all. It took 3 coats to get coverage and even then I noticed some patches that looked thinner (a real bugbear of mine) and I was so careful to try and match up the coats for good opacity. I am not sure if this will remain in my collection permanently…

The next colour is I Lost My Bikini In Molokini, a beautiful deep blue/purple from the 2015 Hawaii collection. This covers so well, fully opaque after 2 coats, it also have a bit of a dusty blue tinge in some lights. I think this shade is great all year round, it has the bright element that is great for Spring/Summer but also the deeper quality that would still give you a cheerful pop of colour for Autumn/Winter. A real winner and one of my favourites.

Aromessence Neroli has to be my favourite facial oil ever (along with Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate, I can’t choose between them!) Then you get the mask with 2/3 of a full size bottle of Aromessence. I will be doing a separate review of the mask, so keep an eye out for that post. This set is £31.44 plus £3.95 p+p from and both Iris and Neroli options are in stock at the time of posting.

Balance Active Formula Dragons Blood Collection*

Hi beauties,

I’ve got a really affordable skincare range today with Balance Active Formula Dragons Blood Lifting Collection. Rhiannon from Brodie & Stone (parent company of Balance Active Formula) very kindly sent me a set for me to test. The Dragons Blood Collecction is for lifting and tightening the skin and to smooth wrinkles. Dragons blood extract as well as Liftonin Xpress are the main active ingredients. Dragons blood extract is a resin found from trees found in the Amazon rainforest, it is said to be an potent antioxidant and extremely effective in helping compromised skin. I have heard of this ingredient from seeing demonstrations on QVC from a brand called Taya which use it in their haircare range for volume and hold for hair.

So starting with the serum; this is a lovely lightweight non greasy serum that sinks into your skin very quickly. It does have a fragrance, however it is quite difficult to describe! It is not unpleasant though, slightly fresh and spicy. It has a firming effect on the skin, you can definitely tell when it has been applied to the skin, it’s a gentle firming rather than tight and uncomfortable. Your skin is still able to move and there is no flaking or chalk whiteness that you can get with some lifting products. You can also use this under your eyes as well to improve the look of lines. I like this serum, I like the firming feeling and the hydration you get, if your skin feels stickly then you have used too much. Your skin should feel smooth and with a gentle firming action.

I am really impressed with the Dragons Blood Eye Lift Balm. I have found the biggest result with this product. This did help reduce the look of the lines after I had applied the eye cream and has a tightening feeling like the serum. Obviously no eye cream can get rid of lines and wrinkles under your eyes but this does make the lines look more hydrated and comfortable and as a balm it is thicker than a lot of eye creams I have tried before. It doesn’t beat my favourite Gatineau Melatogenine Eye Concentrate yet I think for the value of the range the Eye Lift Balm is very good. A friend of mine got in touch with me about it a couple of days after I had been using it and asked my thoughts, I told her it’s the best of the range and well worth trying.

The last of the collection is the Dragons Blood Lifting Cream, this product wasn’t for me. It is a very thin lotion that sinks in quickly but I didn’t overly like the feel of it on my skin. I don’t think that it would be enough hydration for drier skins because it is very fine. I didn’t have a lot of shine breakthough when using it so for my oily skin type it would be ok. Layered with the serum my skin felt a bit tacky and I did vary the amount of product used while I was testing it but I still had the same result.

Bar the Lifting Cream I think this is a good collection, the Lifting Serum and Eye Lift Balm are pleasant to use and results are good. I don’t have many wrinkles on my face so I always test these kind of products on my neck, the Serum made a difference on the necklace lines, they didn’t look as prominent and the lifing properties felt comfortable. Also the Serum didn’t roll off underneath other moisturisers I tested it with and worked well over a couple of oils I used too. The value of these products are extremely good too, you can find them on, the Serum is available for as litle as £5.00, the Eye Lift Balm £3.70 and the Lifting Cream £4.49 so to try the whole range is not going to break the bank! A big thank you to Rhiannon at Brodie & Stone for sending the products for me to try.

Till next time,

Nuture Skincare Intensive Age-Defying Day Cream SPF 30

Hi beauties,

I have a fab SPF today from Nuture Skincare, Intensive Age Defying Day Cream SPF 30. I won this in a twitter competition from Nikki Taylor from with lots of other treats and as I had run out of my usual Ultrasun I gave this a try.

I am really impressed with this product, I have a bit of a love/hate with SPF, I know I should use them to protect my skin especially as I have hyperpigmentation but all too often they are too thick and leave my oily skin feeling more greasy. This is quite a light cream and it does have that SPF feel to it, but I didn’t have to blot as much as I do with my Ultrasun.

The only thing that concerns me with these types of SPF is how long they actually last, I would top this up at lunchtime to feel protected. I don’t know how long it would keep you protected if you wanted to use makeup over the top, most days I don’t wear makeup so not a problem for me but I can see this would be a consideration for most people. It layers well over other skincare, I tested with a few serums underneath and it didn’t roll off and ball up into bits. It’s a great moisturiser, I certainly didn’t need anything else but a serum but if you have very dry skin you may want to apply your normal mosituriser first. It does have a fragrance and it’s really pleasant, it doesn’t have the harsh alcohol smell we usually associate with SPF. This moisturiser also contains Retinol which is known for anti ageing, I didn’t have any side effects (redness or peeling) using this product so how potent the Retinol is in the product I am not sure.

So in conclusion this is a great SPF option especially for us oilier skin types and it is brilliant value at £13.95 for a 30ml size. It lasted me around 6-8 weeks but I do tend to use more SPF (probably too much!) to make sure my skin has a decent layer, the directions are to use a pearl sized amount for face and neck. Nurture Skincare Intensive Age Defying Day Cream is available from
