Manicure Favourites

As last week was skincare I thought I would share my manicure favourites that I cannot do without.

Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File

This file is amazing, as I hate filing I want to do the job quickly without detriment to my nails. This file means you can use it in the “sawing” motion which is a bad idea using a normal emery board. It actually seals the edge of your nails so there is a smooth finish and no picking bits out the ends of nails. It’s really fantastic and I wouldn’t use any other file now.

Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover

A very quick treatment, this gets rid of all excess skin around the cuticle. I tend to use it a couple of times a week as I find my cuticles grow like wildfire and I hate the way it looks when you wear polish. It’s very effective and works so quickly.

Leighton Denny Renovate (not pictured)

I use Renovate a couple of times a month just to keep my nail plate smooth. My nails have a tendency to get a bit rough and dehydrated and this treatment is amazing for that. To start, you buff your nails with side 1 of the duplex buffer. This smooth the nail so that the Renovate cream can penetrate into your nails. You only need a tiny amount and rub it into your nails, you seal in the treatment by buffing using side 2 of the buffer.

OPI Nail Envy

I’ve used Nail Envy for over 20 years, it’s the best nail strengthener for me. I use it as a base coat each time I do a manicure, it’s rare that I have a break and I feel this is down to Nail Envy. I can actually grow my nails to a longer length and they are strong enough without being brittle.

Seche Vite

The the best top coat I’ve ever tried! It’s so fantastic, I wouldn’t contemplate doing a manicure without it. It dries so quickly and really forms a shield over your nails. The gloss is also brilliant, the shine lasts such a long time on me too which I love.

Cuticle oil/butter

These 2 products are new to me, but as they work so well (a bit of a understatement!!) they are my staple go to pair. I discovered them when Hayley from Danglefoot Polish asked me to test her trial of a cuticle butter. She very kindly sent me a fragrance free version as well as the beautifully scented “Be My Sweetpea”. I fell in love with it as soon as I tried it and as much it was brilliant for my hands it was incredible on a very stubborn and uncomfortable patch of eczema that I have. I went to buy the cuticle oil as soon as I could! I love that it is in a lip gloss tube, so easy to apply and no mess at all. I apply oil every time I wash my hands, it is always at my side. Do check out Hayley’s etsy shop, she makes gorgeous polishes as well.

Hand Cream

As with oil, I also apply hand cream every time I wash my hands. I am rather obsessed with hand cream, I hate to count how many tubes I have! Liz Earle Hand Repair is a beautiful non greasy cream that I love to use during the day, the fragrance is gorgeous with essential oils of bergamot, neroli, chamomile and lavender. A little goes a long way so a 150ml pump lasts me a long time. Dr Organic Lavender Skin Lotion is a cream I use at night as the texture is richer. I absolutely adore lavender so the scent is intense and herby but without smelling old fashioned. I love it and I swear it helps me wind down for bedtime.

So these are my favourites, I certainly couldn’t do without them and neither would I want to!

Till next time,

The triple threat facial

Cleanse – Exfoliate – Mask

I can’t remember where I heard the concept of the triple threat facial as it’s something I’ve been doing for quite a long time. I usually do this on a Sunday as the lovely Fiona Brackenbury (Training Director for Decleor) likes to call “Skincare Sunday”. Usually the best day of the week for a bit of pampering, a lovely double cleanse, a massage and some masks. I always have the intention to do a midweek mask but then I’m usually too tired even though I know it will only take 10 minutes.

So, I start off with a double cleanse with one cleanser I keep going back to time after time. I love to try new, but a true staple for me is Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. It’s such a quick and easy cleanser to use and so thorough, even when you are wearing heavy eye makeup. I love the texture, creamy and rich, my skin never feels stripped and I love the smell! I do the first cleanse to remove makeup and SPF (I use Ultrasun face formulas every day) and then on the second cleanse I do some massage techniques to try and get a bit of glow back (I have to take strong painkillers as I have damage to the joints in my spine) as I find that my skin can look very tired and pale.

The next step for me is one of my most favourite exfoliators, Alpha H Micro Cleanse. As I’ve got oily skin I know I’m not supposed to use it too often (as I use their famous Liquid Gold 3 times a week) however I love the result so much!! I will have to be a bit careful as I’ve got a couple of broken capillaries at the side of my nose. The result is fantastic, skin is baby smooth and feels so refreshed. I would definitely recommend Micro Cleanse, especially if you have dry, dull skin on your face or body.

Because I have oily skin, I do enjoy using a clay mask. In years gone by I’ve used one’s where my skin has felt quite tight afterwards so in trying to avoid stripping I’ve gone for Dr Organic Rose Otto clay mask. The fragrance is beautiful and I do feel that it removes excess oil without my skin feeling uncomfortable.

Rosehip oil is an oil I have found that really regulates my oily skin. It’s a dry oil (which sounds weird!) that sinks in so easily and gives wonderful hydration. Especially in the winter time when central heating is cranked up and going in and outdoors I find that I need a little extra help. This is when I put the rosehip oil underneath Liz Earle Intensive Nourishing Treatment, the increased moisture is a great combination.

I interchange the Liz Earle mask with the incredible Gatineau Melatogenine Futur Plus mask, I am wrinkle phobic so adore this mask underneath my eyes. It’s a gorgeous creamy texture and you can use it as a night cream if you so wish. If I only had to use one mask forever, then it would be the Melatogenine. The results in 10 minutes is so fantastic, it softens lines and wrinkles and plumps up your skin so it looks radiant afterwards. It is a versatile product that truly does what Gatineau claims that it does. I’m obsessed!!

I know that this process may sound very long, but the results are good and as the masks generally only take 8-10 minutes at a time it is worth it.

Those are my favourite pampering products, what are yours?

Welcome to my blog

Hi there, welcome to my blog! I’ve been thinking about blogging for a while now, but always put it off  because I just didn’t know where to start.

I have been interested in beauty since I was little, my main passion is nails which if you follow my Instagram page you will see tons of manicures, but I have also Grammed (is that a word??) Pictures of beauty products I like and also my skincare routines. I love nothing better than reading through other beauty blogs and websites, learning about new products or ingredients. As I am in my mid 30’s I’m extremely interested in anti ageing, I am something of a QVC addict as well not just for buying but discovering what new products and brands can offer.

So I hope you enjoy my posts, leave some comments or any questions if you would like to xx
